Registered office
What it is
The official address of a UK company, held on the public register, where Companies House and HMRC send statutory mail. It must be a real address (an 'appropriate address') in the UK where mail can be acknowledged.
Why it matters
An overseas director who can't receive UK mail risks missing warning letters — a leading cause of penalties and strike-off. A registered-office service scans and forwards mail to you.
Common mistake
Using a home address abroad or an invalid address. Companies House now requires an appropriate UK address and can take action against non-compliant ones.
