How UK corporation tax works

Corporation Tax (CT) is a tax on UK company profits. It is reported via form CT600 and must be paid within 9 months and 1 day of the end of the company's accounting period.

Since April 2023, the flat 19% rate no longer applies to all companies. Companies with lower profits pay 19%, those with higher profits pay 25%, and those in between benefit from marginal relief that tapers the transition between the two rates.

Marginal relief means the effective marginal rate for companies with profits between £50,000 and £250,000 is 26.5% on each extra pound. This makes tax planning particularly valuable in this range.
