Arab directors living abroad: how to manage a UK company remotely
Key takeaways for Arab directors
- 1Arab directors based anywhere abroad can own and operate a UK limited company, no UK presence needed
- 2Three annual filing deadlines: accounts (9 months), confirmation statement (12 months), corporation tax (12 months, tax paid at 9 months 7 days)
- 3Director ID verification is mandatory; check the register for each role's date
- 4Your home-country accountant (EAAA, SOCPA, KAAA, BAAA, OACPA) has no authority over UK filings — a UK-regulated provider is required
- 5Fileminder handles all UK obligations remotely, in Arabic, on Arab-world hours, with WhatsApp communication
Fileminder’s take, written for Arab UK company directors
The UK does not require you to live in the country to own or direct a UK limited company. You can be based anywhere in the Arab world — Dubai, Riyadh, Kuwait City, Doha, Manama, Muscat, or Cairo — and your company remains fully valid and fully operable. What it does require is that you keep up with the UK's annual compliance cycle, regardless of where you live. That cycle is the same for every UK limited company, and it runs on a fixed calendar tied to your company's financial year-end.
Your three core annual obligations: annual accounts must be submitted to Companies House within nine months of your company's financial year-end. The confirmation statement — a separate annual filing confirming your company's registered details are accurate — must be filed every 12 months. If your company is actively trading, a corporation tax return (CT600) must be submitted to HMRC within 12 months of year-end, with tax paid within nine months and one day. Missing any one of these triggers automatic financial penalties that start at £150 for late accounts and increase with delay. Miss them long enough and Companies House begins strike-off proceedings — your company is removed from the register permanently.
Director identity verification is now mandatory. New directors verify before appointment; existing directors provide their personal code with the company's next confirmation statement during the transition. You can verify directly with Companies House using a current biometric passport from any country or use an authorised ACSP. The relevant date is attached to each role on the Companies House register, not one universal deadline.
Your home-country accountant cannot do this for you. EAAA, SOCPA, KAAA, QCPA, BAAA, OACPA — every Arab-world professional accounting body operates within its own jurisdiction and has no authority over UK-registered companies. This is not a question of skill; it is a structural boundary. UK Companies House filings, HMRC submissions, and director ID verification all require a UK-regulated provider. Your home-country accountant handles your local obligations; Fileminder handles your UK ones. The two roles do not overlap.
How to manage day-to-day from abroad: you need a UK registered office address (Fileminder provides a London address included in all plans), your company's UTR number for HMRC correspondence, and access to MTD-compatible accounting software if your company is trading (Xero, QuickBooks, or Sage, all cloud-based and accessible from anywhere). Communication with Fileminder is via WhatsApp — we operate Sunday to Thursday, 9am–6pm GST, which aligns with Arab-world working hours. No UK visit is required at any point in the annual cycle.
