Companies House
What it is
Companies House is the UK government registrar of companies. It incorporates and dissolves companies, and holds the public register of company information (directors, accounts, confirmation statements).
Why it matters
Every UK company files with Companies House. Its register is public, so banks, clients and partners can see whether your filings are up to date — a clean record matters for credibility.
Common mistake
Confusing Companies House (company filings) with HMRC (tax). They are separate bodies with separate deadlines — you usually deal with both.
