The registered email address: the Companies House requirement most Arab directors haven't completed yet

Key takeaways for Arab directors

  • 1Mandatory from 4 March 2024 — new companies at incorporation, existing companies at their next confirmation statement
  • 2The address is private — it does not appear on the Companies House public register
  • 3Must be actively monitored — official Companies House correspondence is sent to it
  • 4Check your most recent confirmation statement at the Companies House register to confirm the address was provided
  • 5Fileminder includes the registered email address in every confirmation statement filing automatically

Fileminder’s take, written for Arab UK company directors

The Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023 introduced a requirement for every UK limited company to provide a registered email address to Companies House. This is separate from your registered office address and is not visible to the public — it does not appear on the Companies House public register. It exists solely for Companies House to send official digital correspondence to the company.

The requirement came into force on 4 March 2024. Companies incorporated after that date must provide the email address at the point of incorporation — it is part of the incorporation form. Companies already on the register before that date must provide their email address the next time they file a confirmation statement. If your most recent confirmation statement was filed on or after 4 March 2024 and did not include an email address, your record is incomplete.

The email address must be one that the company's officers actively monitor. Companies House uses it for official correspondence — notices, query letters, and formal communications that previously went only to your registered office postal address. If you use an email address that bounces, forwards to a dormant inbox, or belongs to a former director, you risk missing official notices. This matters particularly for Arab directors who don't have staff monitoring their UK registered office daily.

If you are a Fileminder client, your registered email address was added to your confirmation statement when we filed it. If you used another service or filed your own confirmation statement and are unsure whether the address was provided, you can check your record at find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk — look at your most recent confirmation statement filing. If the address is missing, it is corrected at your next confirmation statement, or you can contact Companies House to update it directly.

One practical consideration for Arab directors: the registered email address should be on a domain you control and intend to keep. Using a personal Gmail or Hotmail address works legally, but using your company domain (e.g. yourname@yourcompany.co.uk) is more professional and less likely to change. If you change email addresses in the future, update it at your next confirmation statement.
