The UK-Egypt Double Taxation Convention dates from 1977 and has been in force since 23 August 1980. The treaty prevents the same income from being taxed twice as it flows between the two countries. However, unlike Gulf countries, Egypt imposes personal income tax on individuals at progressive rates up to 27.5%. Egyptian directors who are tax residents of Egypt and draw dividends from a UK company should understand how the DTA applies to their position: the treaty prevents double taxation, but it does not necessarily eliminate Egyptian personal income tax on overseas dividends. Foreign tax credit provisions in the DTA provide relief where tax has been paid in both countries, but professional advice on your specific situation is recommended.
Many Egyptian entrepreneurs and professionals hold UK limited companies for consulting income from European and Gulf clients, e-commerce, and international trade. The UK company also functions as a GBP-denominated vehicle, a practical consideration given fluctuations in the Egyptian pound exchange rate. Wherever you run it from, Companies House and HMRC obligations follow a UK timetable.
Director identity verification has been mandatory since 18 November 2025. Existing directors provide their personal code with the company's next confirmation statement during the transition. An Egyptian passport may be used through an ACSP such as Fileminder, subject to the current evidence standard, with no UK visit required.
Annual accounts must be filed with Companies House within nine months of the company's financial year-end. Corporation Tax return and payment to HMRC. Confirmation statement annually. These UK obligations run independently of any Egyptian regulatory requirements under the ESAA or the Egyptian Tax Authority.
Fileminder is AAT-regulated and ACSP-authorised, works with ACCA-qualified accountants, and works in Arabic during Gulf business hours (Sunday–Thursday). Clear annual plans, professional indemnity insurance on all filings.

Will you be taxed twice?
The UK has a double taxation agreement with Egypt. It sets out which country taxes each type of income and gives relief from being taxed twice, but you usually need to claim the relief correctly, not assume it applies automatically.

Can I verify my UK Director ID from Egypt?
Your Egyptian passport is accepted for UK Director ID verification, no UK visit or UK documents required.
When are my UK company annual accounts due?
Annual accounts are due within 9 months of your company's financial year-end.
Do I need to visit the UK to manage my company compliance from Egypt?
No. Fileminder provides a fully remote service. Director ID verification and all filings can be completed online.
How does the UK-Egypt Double Taxation Convention affect Egyptian directors?
The UK-Egypt treaty (in force since 1980) protects against double taxation on the same income stream. Because Egypt levies personal income tax, foreign tax credits provide relief, but specific local tax advice is recommended.
Can an Egyptian director manage a UK company without travelling to the UK?
Yes. All Companies House filings, HMRC Corporation Tax submissions, and ACSP Director ID verification using an Egyptian passport are handled 100% remotely by Fileminder.
Can I open a UK business bank account for my company from abroad?
It can be possible, but it is not guaranteed. Some providers accept online applications from eligible directors living abroad, but the rules differ by country of residence, company and provider: Revolut's UK-company route, for example, accepts applicants only from the countries of residence on its list, and Tide needs a UK mobile number. Each provider decides, and the director passes its checks personally. We help you prepare the documents.
Can a director in Egypt keep their home address off the UK public register?
Yes. Companies House keeps a director's residential address private. What appears on the public register is the company's registered office, which must be in the UK, and each director's service address, so choose a service address you are happy to publish. Fileminder provides the London registered office, with official mail scanned and forwarded to you.
